The Australian Museum (AM) uses WordFly, an email marketing service provider, to communicate via email with its audiences. WordFly is used by many arts, cultural and not-for-profit organisations in Australia and around the world.

The AM has been advised by WordFly that it is currently experiencing a global network outage due to a recent cybersecurity incident. WordFly has confirmed that some email addresses and other non-sensitive data may have been exposed during this incident but has not confirmed that your personal information has been affected. WordFly has stated there is no evidence that any of the affected data has been misused.

The only information the AM has shared with WordFly are names and email addresses. No passwords or customer financial information is electronically stored within WordFly. At this time, there is no evidence to suggest any information imported to WordFly has been misused. We are alerting you in the interests of transparency and because your privacy is important to us.

At this stage the AM, alongside our industry peers, is monitoring the situation closely and we are in continued communication with WordFly who is working to remediate the situation. We will resume email communication with our audiences as soon as possible. Subscribers to the AM mailing list do not need to take any action.

Please visit WordFly’s Incident Updates for additional information regarding this matter And the AM team is available to answer questions by contacting feedback@australian.museum.
