The Australian Museum (AM) will reopen to the public on Saturday 28 November after a 15 month $57.5m building transformation which has significantly increased public spaces and improved amenities within the historic museum complex on the corner of William and College Streets.
The Australian Museum is located on the corner of College Street and William Street in central Sydney, just across the road from Hyde Park and opposite St Mary's Cathedral. For directions, please see the Google Map at the end of this page.

Car parking stations
Take advantage of our promotional parking with Secure Parking at the Hilton Hotel Car Park when you visit.
Secure Parking is only a ten minute walk away, located within the Hilton Sydney Hotel, Pitt Street.
Simply ask our staff for your parking rebate ticket and present this with your original ticket when you collect your car to receive a great daily parking rate.

With reopening on 28 November 2020, there will be a new drop off zone at the William St allowing easy access to the groups entrance for buses and vehicles with mobility parking permits.
There is currently no accessible parking available at the Museum. We recommend parking at nearby car parks and metered parking in surrounding streets. Enacon Parking on Cathedral Street has 11 accessible spots and is a 3 minute walk to the Australian Museum. This route has no steps.

Ride your Bike
There are bike loops along William Street street poles around the AM. Refer to the City of Sydney website for more info on bike riding around the city.
You can park your pram in the pram bay opposite Prehistoric Playground on Level 2 in the museum. The whole museum is pram-friendly, with lifts and ramps throughout.
The nearest train stations are St James, Museum and Town Hall. Each are of equal distance to us and are an easy 7 minute walk.
Please note that Museum Station does not offer lift access at this stage.
If you have a stroller or wheelchair, please note that your journey through Hyde Park will end in stairs at each of the museum corners on College and Park Streets. Level exit is available at the St Mary's Cathedral pedestrian crossing if coming from St James Station, and at the corner of College and Liverpool Streets if coming from Museum Station.
For bus services arriving in the city centre, alight near Hyde Park or Town Hall and walk east along Park Street towards Kings Cross - a 7 to 10 minute walk.
