Museum people
Behind every Australian Museum collection, exhibition and research breakthrough, there are people with unique stories.
For two centuries, museum staff, volunteers, donors and community members have crafted an institution that ignites wonder, inspires debate and champions change. From early naturalists and collectors to contemporary researchers, curators and cultural knowledge-holders, countless individuals have shaped the Australian Museum.
This page houses biographical profiles of select people who have contributed to the Australian Museum’s history, created using records from our Archives. There is an ongoing initiative to share the stories of staff and collaborators from the museum's past, with new profiles added as archival research continues.

Former museum staff share their stories
In 2021, the Australian Museum Archives recorded a series of audio interviews with former staff reflecting on their time at the museum. They captured nearly 50 hours of oral history, contributing to the collective memory of the institution as it reflects on a 200 year legacy in 2027.
Three important former staff members generously agreed to share their stories as public videos. Watch them reflect on their highlights of their time at the Australian Museum below.
