Museums are the custodians of heritage and communicators of history, making them an ideal case study for exploring the complex relationship between the two concepts.

In this unit, students will explore the significance of museums and cultural heritage to our understanding of history. While there are opportunities to bring students into the Museum, this learning resource can also be used without a visit to our exhibitions.


Learning Intentions:

  • explore the relationship between history and heritage
  • assess ethical issues that arise when reconstructing the past
  • analyse historical sources for use in investigating history and heritage

Sucess Criteria

  • collaboratively create an exhibition that explores the relationship between history and heritage
  • I can make a judgement on the ethical issues surrounding the changing definition of museums
  • I can effectively analyse a source and understand how it's history and heritage is communicated
