About the program
This 2-hour program is designed for Stage 6 Ancient History students completing Cultural Heritage and the Role of Museums in Investigating ancient history - The nature of ancient history. It will also be suitable for any Stage 6 History student looking to deepen their understanding of History and develop their historical skills.

Museums are the custodians of cultural heritage and play a significant part in our understanding of the past and there is no better place to explore the importance of cultural heritage and the unique role of museums than the Australian Museum.

Students will begin the session in a dedicated learning space, focusing on the origin of museums and how they have adapted over time. This is followed by a walking tour that describes the cultural heritage of the Australian Museum and its surrounds. In the 200 Treasures of the Australian Museum gallery, students will complete a scavenger hunt of some of the Museum’s most interesting artefacts that explore the role museums in historical construction. Students will finish the program by stepping into the role of historian and digitisation officer, photographing and researching a number of objects form the Australian Museum collections.

The program will be facilitated by a museum educator, and we strongly encourage teacher, parent and guardian participation.
