About the program
This 1-hour program is designed for Stage 4 Geography students.
The program puts students into the role of town planners in a fast-paced, collaborative simulation. Students will look at technological and nature-based solutions to attempt to prevent and adapt to our changing climate.
They will be supported by Museum educators to make and evaluate choices about energy, food, transport and the natural world, using engaging landscapes and models. As our warming world brings new extremes, these new town planners will quickly see how their choices determine their town’s liveability. They will learn to consider real-world limitations like money, social will, individual adaptability and resilience, and limited land use, before reflecting on what aspects they can bring into their own lives to enact the world they want to see.
This program will occur off-site with the Future Now exhibition, three custom built scale models full of sustainable landscapes and innovative climate solutions.
Learning objectives:
In this program, students will:
- be able to identify sustainability practices and inventions at all levels of society to enhance liveability, and why these could be effective.
- look at technological, nature-based, and community-based solutions to prevent and adapt to climate change
- evaluate the ways that towns can be organised more sustainably.
- be able to explain the benefits of caring for Country to enhance liveability for all peoples in the context of climate change.
- be able to explain practices they can take to be more sustainable and identify a way in which they will take positive action.
