About the program
This program offers students the rare opportunity to create still life animal drawings using specimens from the Museum's Ornithology collection.

Through observation and illustration this program uniquely combines capabilities specific and significant to both Science and Visual Arts.

Students will adopt the role of the artist to make artworks using the natural world as subject matter, building their experience and developing their talents in drawing and printmaking.

Students will also explore the historical and visual significance of the work of Elizabeth Gould and compare with the artistic practice of Museum scientist Emily Cave.

Compliment this experience with a self-led visit of the Museum’s Birds of Australia gallery (Level 2) and Birds of Australia STORYBOX exhibition (Upper Ground, June 7th- 27th July).

Learning objectives:
In this program, students will:

  • use drawing and printmaking as art forms.
