This is the single species of the family Jobiniteuthidae.

Identification

This is an elongate squid, with very long arm pairs (1-3) up to twice the body length, each with 6 rows of suckers. It also strangely has a tail which can be as long as the body.

Habitat

J. portieri been found living in mid-depth and deep waters of the open ocean, and individuals have been observed at depths over 2000m.

Distribution

Found throughout tropical and sub-tropical waters worldwide.
