Choose your own adventure in the School Holidays at the Australian Museum
Sydney, November 10 2025: With the summer holidays just around the corner, school is out and the Australian Museum (AM) is inviting everyone to take part in Sydney’s most exciting treasure hunt, filled with LEGO® bricks and Minifigures, as part of the RELICS: A New World Rises exhibition, on until 26 January.
Former LEGO® Masters champions, Jackson Harvey and Alex Towler, have added an intricate ‘scavenger hunt’ to the exhibition experience, customed designed to spark the imaginations of younger visitors and adults, sharing the ingenious hidden details in each of the 14 displays.
Australian Museum Director and CEO, Kim McKay AO, said the RELICS scavenger hunt encourages visitors to discover the multiple stories, adventures and in-jokes, hidden in the exhibition.
“The RELICS exhibition reimagines the traditional museum experience through thousands of LEGO® pieces that come together to tell many interconnected stories. And with the scavenger hunt challenge, visitors will find themselves spending hours sharing their finds and the antics of the madcap Minifigures. There are some funny stories and historical figures to be found – I’m still looking for Houdini,” McKay said.

This immersive exhibition weaves together themes of sustainability and futurism with playful, imaginative narratives that encourage visitors to see familiar everyday objects in entirely new ways. A refrigerator becomes a cryogenic health resort; a typewriter turns into a newspaper headquarters; a Volkswagen Beetle houses an energy revolution; and a new Museum of Manufactured History, created especially for the Australian Museum, invites visitors to reflect on how future generations might see us.
Alongside the scavenger hunt, families can be hands-on at the interactive LEGO® build zone, where kids can design and display their own creations. The result is a museum experience that blends creativity, learning and play for all ages. Whether it is a rainy-day escape or a summer city adventure, RELICS is a must-see experience for everyone.
Built up an appetite during your visit? The RELICS Dining Package offers visitors the option to enjoy a delicious meal and house beverage along with superb views at Bistro Gadi, along with entry to the RELICS exhibition for only $60 per person. Available for lunch bookings Wednesday to Sunday from 11am to 3pm, with RELICS tickets provided to visitors at Bistro Gadi, Level 4, on the day.
The Australian Museum is also hosting two free spectacular photographic exhibitions over the summer holiday period. The iconic Australian Geographic Nature Photographer of the Year exhibition, which showcases extraordinary images of the natural world; as well as Unfinished Business, a compelling exhibition which shares the stories of 30 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living with disabilities from remote, regional, and urban communities across Australia.
Visitors can also explore the stunning permanent galleries, such as Dinosaurs, Minerals, Birds of Australia alongside award-winning First Nations galleries, including Garrigarrang, Wansolmoana and the Burra play space.
The Australian Museum offers free general admission and is open every day, excluding Xmas Day, 25 December. Tickets for RELICS are available now - strong demand is expected for the summer holidays. Gift cards for the exhibition are also available via the AM website.
RELICS is proudly supported by Hotel Partner, Pullman Sydney Hyde Park.
