The University of Technology Sydney Eureka Prize for Outstanding Mentor of Researchers is awarded to an individual scientist who has helped develop the next generation of Australia's scientific researchers.

Assessment criteria

Entries must specifically address how the work entered meets the following assessment criteria.


  1. Direct mentoring (30%)

    Describe and provide evidence of the impact the entrant’s direct mentoring has had on the career progression and achievements of mentees.

  2. Programs and policies (40%)

    Document the programs and policies implemented by the entrant and describe how they have led to the positive development of mentees and researchers across their organisation and/or discipline.

  3. Inclusion (30%)

    Describe and provide evidence of the leadership the entrant has shown, as part of their mentoring activities, to increase participation of underrepresented groups in scientific fields and careers.


Category specific conditions of entry – Leadership prizes

This prize is open to individuals only.

The entrant or nominee must be either an Australian citizen or Australian permanent resident.

Activity entered for this prize must have taken place in or been led from Australia, as defined in the Australian Museum Eureka Prizes Terms and Conditions.

Entrants can either enter themselves or be nominated by another person. If an entrant is nominated it is important that they provide input to the documentation supporting their nomination.

The activity entered or nominated for this prize may not be entered or nominated for another Australian Museum Eureka Prize in the same year.

Activity that has been awarded an Australian Museum Eureka Prize in the past cannot be entered again.

In addition to the category specific conditions of entry all entrants need to comply with the General Terms and Conditions of Entry.


Entry materials

Each entry must include the following information. All information provided will be used by the judging panel to assess the activity against the assessment criteria.


  1. Activity summary

    [Two pages (maximum); 2cm margins (minimum); Size 11 font (minimum)].

    A statement from the entrant or nominator that provides an overview of the mentorship activities, including objectives, approach, and results to date. Key dates (month and year) must be included.

  2. Response to assessment criteria

    [2 pages (maximum); 2cm margins (minimum); Size 11 font (minimum)].

    A statement by the entrant or nominator on how the activity addresses each of the assessment criterion. Key dates (month and year) must be included.

  3. Assessor reports

    [Reports must be prepared using the template provided. Two pages (maximum)].

    Three reports from assessors on how the activity entered addresses each of the assessment criterion. Judges rely on assessor reports to provide an additional perspective and informed opinion on the activity entered, therefore assessors should not be personally or directly involved in it. Assessors should be selected from a variety of different organisations. One of the reports must be from an individual who has been mentored by the entrant. Reports must be prepared using the template provided.

  4. Curriculum vitae (CV)

    The CV of the entrant or nominee. Please provide a factual summary of academic and professional achievements.
