Entries to the 2022 Australian Museum Eureka Prizes closed at 7.00 pm AEST Friday 6 May 2022.

Finalists will be announced on Wednesday 27 July and winners will be announced at an Award Ceremony on Wednesday 31 August 2022.

Research & Innovation

The Eureka Prize for Applied Environmental Research is presented by Environment, Energy and Science (DPE).



The NSW Environment, Energy and Science (DPE) Eureka Prize for Applied Environmental Research is awarded for outstanding research that has led to a practical improvement in the management or protection of Australia’s natural environment, particularly challenges posed by threats such as bushfires, pests, weeds and climate change.



The Eureka Prize for Excellence in Interdisciplinary Scientific Research is awarded for an outstanding research outcome that was only possible as a result of the integration of two or more unrelated disciplines.



The Eureka Prize for Infectious Diseases Research is presented by the Australian Infectious Diseases Research Centre.



The Australian Infectious Diseases Research Centre Eureka Prize for Infectious Diseases Research is awarded for outstanding infectious diseases research that benefits, or has the potential to benefit, human health.



The Eureka Prize for Innovative Use of Technology is presented by ANSTO.



The ANSTO Eureka Prize for Innovative Use of Technology is awarded for an innovative application of a new or existing technology that has led to a significantly improved research outcome.



The Eureka Prize for Outstanding Early Career Researcher is presented by Macquarie University.



The Macquarie University Eureka Prize for Outstanding Early Career Researcher is awarded for outstanding scientific research conducted by an individual early career researcher.



The Eureka Prize for Scientific Research is presented by UNSW.



The UNSW Eureka Prize for Scientific Research is awarded for outstanding curiosity-driven scientific research.




Leadership

The Eureka Prize for Emerging Leader in Science is awarded to an individual scientist who has used their leadership skills to create impact within their discipline or more broadly.



Eureka Prize for Leadership in Science and Innovation is presented by the Department of Defence.



The Eureka Prize for Leadership in Science and Innovation is awarded to an individual who has successfully integrated their science talents with the management skills necessary to nurture, inspire and mobilise their peers.



The Eureka Prize for Outstanding Mentor of Young Researchers is presented by the University of Technology Sydney.



The University of Technology Sydney Eureka Prize for Outstanding Mentor of Young Researchers is awarded to an individual who has helped develop the next generation of Australia's scientific researchers.




Science Engagement

The Eureka Prize for Innovation in Citizen Science is presented by the Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources through the Inspiring Australia - Science Engagement Programme.



The Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources Eureka Prize for Innovation in Citizen Science is awarded for demonstrated excellence in citizen science practice, through an innovative research and community engagement project.



The Eureka Prize for Promoting Understanding of Science is presented by Celestino.



The Celestino Eureka Prize for Promoting Understanding of Science is awarded to an individual scientist who has shared their expertise with a broad audience - informing, enthusing and engaging the public.



The Eureka Prize for Science Journalism is presented by the Australian Museum.



The Australian Museum Eureka Prize for Science Journalism is awarded to an Australian journalist or journalist team whose work is assessed as having most effectively communicated scientific or technological issues to the public.



The Eureka Prize for STEM Inclusion is presented by the Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources through the Inspiring Australia - Science Engagement Programme.



The Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources Eureka Prize for STEM Inclusion is awarded for an initiative that has led to greater inclusion in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).




School Science

The Sleek Geeks Science Eureka Prize – Primary and Secondary School, is presented by the University of Sydney.



The University of Sydney Sleek Geeks Science Eureka Prize is awarded for a short film that communicates a scientific concept in an accessible and engaging way.
