Are there live animals within the exhibition?
No, there are no live animals within the exhibition.
Will there be blood?
There is no real or simulated blood on display in this exhibition. There is, however, content about blood and bleeding. Please be mindful if you are sensitive to visuals or descriptions of blood.
What age is this exhibition suitable for?
Bloodsuckers: Nature’s Vampires is designed for older children (8+ years) and adults. There are interactive exhibits that all ages will enjoy.
When is the best time to visit?
For a more relaxed visit, we recommend coming on weekday afternoons outside of school holidays and public holidays — they're usually our quietest times.
How long can we stay in the exhibition?
We recommend allowing 50-70 minutes for your exhibition visit.
Are we able to take photographs?
Yes, although no commercial photography is allowed.
Is the exhibition accessible?
The AM is committed to providing an inclusive and accessible experience for all visitors.
Bloodsuckers: Nature’s Vampires has been designed to be physically and visually accessible for visitors. There is enough room to navigate prams, wheelchairs and other mobility devices through the space, and is accessible via a lift for anyone unable to use the escalator into the basement exhibition hall.
The Australian Museum has wheelchair accessible entrances marked on the Museum Map and a range of accessible services and programs, including Audio Descriptive tours that you can access on your own mobile device.
Assistance animals that are specifically trained and accredited to assist people with disabilities under the relevant state or territory law are welcome to enter the museum. The AM may require proof of accreditation upon entry.

Low sensory sessions:
There is ambient lighting and some ambient soundscape in the exhibition. The AM will host special lower sensory sessions on the first Tuesday of each month at 12:30pm and 1pm.

During these sessions, adjustments are made to reduce sensory stimulation and support a more comfortable visit experience.
Modifications include:
- Reduced visitor numbers
- Lower sound levels

Are food and drink allowed in the exhibition?
Food and beverages are not permitted in our galleries or exhibition spaces to ensure the preservation of our important collections. This includes water bottles.
Is there an area to leave personal belongings?
Our cloaking room is located on Lower Ground (LG) and is open during business hours. The AM reserves the right to close the cloakroom without notice.
You cannot bring luggage or suitcases of any size into the AM, including carry-on luggage, wheeled bags, duffle bags or travel suitcases. Security and front of house staff have absolute discretion to determine whether items can be stored in the cloakroom or must be restricted from entry.

Please ensure items are collected from the cloakroom ten minutes before closing.
Are prams allowed in the exhibition?
Due to space, potential crowding and valuable displays, we prefer prams are not taken into the exhibition and pram parking is available in designated areas throughout the Museum. However, we understand there may be extenuating circumstances for some of our visitors so can accommodate this to a degree.
How can I book my tickets?
Tickets are available to purchase in advance online or in person. Please note that on-the-day pricing is higher, so we recommend booking online ahead of time to secure your preferred session and access advance pricing. See ticket pricing here.
What is the refund policy and ticket terms & conditions?
Please carefully our Ticket Terms and Conditions, which cover important information including our refund policy. We draw your attention to the following provisions in particular:
- You will only be entitled to refunds in certain circumstances as set out in these Terms, unless required by law. See Cancelled and Rescheduled Events (clause 2) and Refunds, Exchanges and Replacements (clause 3).
- The AM limits its liability for loss suffered by you at an Event or as a result of a cancellation or rescheduling of an Event. See Cancelled and Rescheduled Events (clause 2) and Liability – Safety, Illness, Injury and Other Loss (clause 5).
- The AM may cancel your ticket if you breach these Terms or exceed ticket limits. See Ticket Limits (clause 6).
- All Tickets are subject to the Australian Museum Terms of Entry.
What is the exchange policy?
Tickets can be exchanged to a different date, (with a minimum of 24 hours notice) however there is a $4.95 exchange fee. If you can no longer attend the date you have booked, please email visit@australian.museum before the date of your booking.
Is there a group discount?
Yes, if you purchase 10+ tickets in one transaction a 10% group discount is automatically applied.
Are companion cards accepted? How do I book a ticket for a companion card?
General Admission and major exhibition entry is free to those who hold a Companion Card and are assisting as a carer. Please email visit@australian.museum to have your companion card added to your booking.
Further discount will apply when presenting a Centrelink Healthcare Card or Pension Card. See our Admissions page for further details.
