Willy Kwong has finished the Harry Burrell project

Archives' intern Willy Kwong shares his final thoughts on his work on the Harry Burrell glass plate negative collection.

Hey everyone.

Today is the last day of my internship. It’s wonderful that I was given the opportunity to work in the Archives and Records department. This internship provided me with a perfect opportunity to finally be given that much needed firsthand experience of working in a museum. Not to mention, it gives me something to write about for my course report at the University of Sydney. Sure, if the internship’s not there I don’t have to wake up 6 in the morning to get to work!

I have managed to finish re-housing and cataloguing every glass plate negative in the Henry Burrell collection. It’s an accomplishment of its own, as most of them needed to be handled with delicate care and I am not a person of finesse. Thankfully, I did not break any of them.

My last task has been to write a description of the Henry Burrell collection for the Archives' website and make a selection of glass plate negatives to feature on the site (these will be up in the next few weeks).  I tried to make my description as informative, engaging and simple to understand as possible. From personal experience in University, cramping too many details did more to complicate than explain.
