Introduction

Very little is known about Cape York Sheathtail Bats in Australia. They are also found in Papua New Guinea.

Cape York Sheathtail Bats seem to roost in tree hollows in Australia, but in New Guinea they are known from limestone caves.

Distribution

Distribution data sourced from the Atlas of Living Australia

Feeding and diet

Cape York Sheathtail Bats eat beetles, flying ants, grasshoppers and moths. They fly high and straight over the top of trees in open forests hunting for prey.

Conservation status

Cape York Sheathtail Bats are vulnerable to destruction of roost sites in hollows trees by clearing for agriculture and changes to feeding areas by agricultural activities.
