Sydney Science Trail (SST) is an initiative run by the Australian Museum (AM) and Royal Botanic Gardens and Domain Trust in celebration of National Science Week. In 2022, the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) partnered with the Australian Museum across the SST program. The collaboration allowed UTS the opportunity to promote its science offering whilst also highlighting the world class educators within the organisation.

The SST Expo, held onsite at the AM, allowed UTS to showcase multiple university departments through dedicated stalls covering Maths and Physics and Health whilst providing engaging experiences for visiting students to witness first hand. This presence provided UTS with exposure to over 1,400 students and educators and 1,100 further visitors during the SST Community Days. For those unable to attend in person, an online SST program was available, featuring UTS content as one of the key learning touchpoints, achieving exposure to over 5,000 students who engaged in the online alternative.

Presence during SST was further enhanced with the AM providing UTS the opportunity to co-develop a series of workshops for secondary students demonstrating practical applications of forensic science. The SST program also championed UTS academics by providing a platform to participate in subject matter panels throughout the program sharing practical insight STEM career opportunities and the future of the industry.

Sydney Science Trail at the Australian Museum provided an integrated education-minded partnership opportunity for UTS, creating an environment for STEM communication with outreach and interaction platforms to highlight the organisation’s offering.
