Waranara means ‘to seek’ in the First Nations languages of the Sydney region - seek knowledge, seek truth, seek understanding.
This teacher professional development is aimed at primary teachers and covers NESA Proficient Teacher Standards 2.4.2, delivered by First Nations educators.
Participants will learn accurate histories of our First Nations peoples and how the action of truth telling informs best practice in teaching Aboriginal content.
Practice in authentically embedding Aboriginal content throughout teaching and learning programs will be reflected in collaborative learning, including creating and sharing program components.
Pedagogies and strategies that best support and enrich a diversity of learning styles will be explored.
Through the generous support of our philanthropic donors the Australian Museum is offering this program for free for a limited time.
This was a fantastic taster of how to embed Aboriginal education into everyday teaching, as well as how to show respect for First Nations peoples by truth-telling. I wish it had gone for longer. It’s so complex in how to get it so correct and remain respectful with every little decision we make...There’s a lot I can take back to my staff even as a starting point for us all.
