Learn about First Nations histories and cultures in this new teacher professional development program.
Waranara means ‘to seek’ in the First Nations languages of the Sydney region - seek knowledge, seek truth, seek understanding.
This teacher professional development is aimed at primary teachers and covers NESA standards of 1.4 and 2.4, delivered by First Nations educators.
Participants will learn accurate histories of our First Nations peoples and how the action of truth telling informs best practice in teaching Aboriginal content.
Teachers will gain an increased confidence in working with Aboriginal families and communities through discussion of strategies that build engagement and genuine relationships.
Practice in authentically embedding Aboriginal content throughout teaching and learning programs will be reflected in collaborative learning, including creating and sharing program components.
Pedagogies and strategies that best support and enrich a diversity of learning styles will be explored.
Through the generous support of an anonymous donor, the Australian Museum is offering a limited number of free places for teachers currently working in schools (or pre-service teachers) in South-West Sydney, Western Sydney or regional NSW.

- Cost: $250 (GST included) per participant. General entry to the Australian Museum is free. Fully funded places available for teachers in South-West or Western Sydney, or regional NSW (see above).

- Times: 9.30am - 4.00pm, with FREE optional weaving from 4.00pm - 4.45pm
