Scientist For a Day
The Scientist for a Day program is a full day social and educational workshop for young minds aged 9-12, designed to show kids what it’s like to work in different areas of science.
Ages: 9 - 12
Our Scientist For a Day program is a full day social and educational workshop for young minds aged 9-12, with a focus on encouraging a curiosity for and understanding of science. Each Scientist For a Day program has different themes, such as ornithology, palaeontology, mammalogy, and arachnology, designed to show kids what it’s like to work in different areas of science.
The program includes hands on activities and experiments that provide practical demonstrations, as well as rare behind the scenes opportunities that allow the kids to engage with practicing scientists within the Museum, as well as the external science community.

This is a full day program starting from 9:30am until 3:30pm.
We run Scientist for a Day at least twice every school holidays. We would love to add more dates, however, our scientists are very busy which limits how many days we can deliver the program.

We ask children to bring their own lunch, snacks, and water bottle. It’s a good idea to also bring a hat and raincoat as we often venture outside to Hyde or Cook Park for Lunch.
Parents don’t normally stay for these workshops as numbers are capped for behind the scene activities; and the presence of parents can often stop some children from fully participating in the program.
If there are access requirements for your child, please get in touch on how best we can support your child.
Recommended ages for programs are often advised by the service provider or host delivering the program. Age ranges for programs are devised to suit the developmental levels or skills required to get the most out of a program.
We do, however, sometimes make exemptions for children within one year of the specified age range if they have an older sibling attending. We can also be flexible on ages and modify or adapt programs to suit children with access requirements.
We simply ask you contact the Museum to discuss and inform of access requirements on the booking form.
Please refer to the AM's refund policy here. Discounted Members tickets will be verified with Members registered for Family Membership benefits. Members Benefits are for registered Members only (kids and /or adults).
