Ghost Net art: Sculptures now on display

Come and see these fantastic works, made earlier this year by artists at Erub Erwer Meta (Darnley Island Arts Centre) in the Torres Strait.

This has been an amazing project to be involved with. Visiting the art centre on Darnley Island back in May, and seeing the first stages of construction on Dauma and Garom, was a real highlight. To now see the finished works on display in the gallery is very exciting.

It is inspiring to think that some of the faded, bulky and unattractive net and rope that we saw draped over railings and fences at the art centre, has now been turned into four stunning ghost net works that are part of the Australian Museums permanent collection. They are wonderful examples of what can be achieved when people are passionate about the environment around them, and want to contribute to protecting it.
