The Australian Museum has one of the largest collection in the world of First Nations cultures, specifically from Pacific and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

As with many modern museums, we are seeking to find our place in modern culture and within First Nations communities with respect to collecting practices of the past and our role as a supporter and enabler of community wishes in the future.

The First Nations collections belong to ancestors, to First Nations people of the present and to the young people of the future. We commit, through our actions, to make the Museum a place of welcome, healing and richness for all First Nations people.

Explore aspects of our collections here online, or come to the Museum to see how they reflect our nation and our region’s First Peoples heritage. You are also invited to experience our cultural programs and educational offerings, many of which are community inspired and led.
