Notes

In Australia, the species occurs in tropical waters from the central coast of Western Australia, around the tropical north and down the east coast to southern Queensland.

It is very difficult to identify Parascorpaena specimens from photos and/or underwater observations. Hiroyuki Motomura stated that, Parascorpaena differs from Scorpaena in having cycloid body scales and anteriorly-directed posterior lacrymal spines.
