
Sammy Huirua
Sammy is an experienced cultural heritage professional, with a background in museum studies and public history.
As Project Officer, Cultural Consultation at the Australian Museum, Sammy works closely with communities to ensure culturally appropriate practices in collections care, exhibition development and public programming. Her role focuses on fostering respectful dialogue, integrating Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property (ICIP) principles and enhancing community-led storytelling within the museum space.
With experience in museums, archives and cultural collections, Sammy has contributed to projects at the Australian Centre for Ancient Numismatics Studies, Critical Path Sydney and the Central Coast Interactive War Exhibit.
Sammy is dedicated to cultural heritage management, ethical museum practices, and the accurate representation of culture and voices. She is committed to fostering creative spaces that preserve, share, and celebrate cultural heritage with integrity.
