These winter school holidays, curious kids are invited behind the scenes at the Australian Museum’s Research Library for a full day of hands-on discovery!

Step into a world of rare books and tour the Research Library with the Australian Museum's Library Technician, Anina Hainsworth, and Collection Manager Archives, Robert Dooley. Draw inspiration from the exquisite bird illustrations at the new The Birds of Australia: John and Elizabeth Gould exhibition, and uncover how scientists use books to explore the natural world. Learn the art of scientific drawing, then create and bind your very own journal to take home!

Anina Hainsworth is a Library Technician at the Australian Museum. Passionate about natural history and books, Anina joined the Australian Museum just before 2000. Responsible for looking after the Research library’s large collection of scientific works and helping people access the information they hold, working in the library of a natural history museum is Anina’s dream job. The highlight in her role is the rare book collection because the Australian Museum has the largest collection of rare books that contain beautiful hand-coloured illustrations that chart the history of science.
