This is a past event. Discover more programs here.

Ages: 18+ (ID must be shown on entry)

Kicking off the Museum’s Sydney WorldPride celebrations, our iconic after-hours, adults-only party returns this February, so dust off your rainbows and sparkles! Whether you’re coming for the science, the silly, or the sing-alongs, this is a night for everyone; for our LGBTQIA+ community and allies, for the Jurassic Lounge loyalists and the first-timers.

A night of comedy, community and science will turn the spotlight on the queer heroes of STEAM. Get your costumes ready... We want you to be who you want to be, whether it's animal, mineral, vegetable or just fabulous you!

Lose yourself in our galleries and hidden spaces, which will be brimming with DJs, comedians and scientists from all the colours of the rainbow. Take a walk on the Wild (Planet) side as the queens of Sydney Drag Royalty return to strut their stuff among the lions and tigers and bears (oh my!). Spinning the decks on the mainstage, MC extraordinaire Aunty Jonny will create the soundtrack to your dreams, while upstairs in Dinosaurs, Scary Strangers present their comic (yet oddly informative) autopsy of a T.rex. Be dazzled by rare rocks and gemstones in Minerals or delve beneath the surface of our blockbuster exhibition Sharks. There’ll be face-painting, drop-in drawing workshops, stand-up comedy, a pop-up bar, party games and much more!

This event is 18+ only. ID must be shown on entry (please make sure your face is visible and identifiable). Terms of Entry apply. All kinds of real or toy weapons are strictly prohibited.

A taste of the line-up

Our host and DJ is the irreverent Jonny Hawkins (aka Aunty Jonny). An actor, writer, film maker, DJ, Founder of the Dollar Bin Darlings, and self-proclaimed Sydney Loyalist, Aunty Jonny will keep you moving with upbeat playlist of bangers which have underscored the LGBTQIA+ scene across the decades.

There be awards for the best dressed and the largest choreographed dance in the AM’s history as everyone walks the dinosaur guided by the queens of Sydney Drag Royalty!

Hosted by Associate Professor Alice Motion, Queered Science celebrates the LGBTQIA+ champions of the science world. Hear from scientists from across the STEAM spectrum as they query the queer in the world of scientific research and achievement.

The good folk from Scary Strangers return with their crack-team of scientists who have been in comedy training over the past months to turn their research into stand-up sets!

Explore the science behind spider orgies, hydroponic lettuce start-ups, and collecting bat poo from around the world – nothing is off limits! They will share the stage with some of Sydney’s hottest comedians, as they explore the hilarious wonders of science!

Scary Strangers present LGBT.rex Autopsy, a comic yet oddly informative take on what led to the demise of the world’s most famous predator.

Comedian Nat Caro joins forces with the AM’s Martha Johnson to present Safe Science, a beginners guide to experimentation. Do not try this at home!

Paleo artist Celia Curtis leads drop-in drawing classes with a focus on one of the more flamboyant Australian birds, the rainbow lorikeet.

Female & non-binary vinyl DJ collective, Queen Bee DJs featuring Dessert pump out silent tunes surrounded by lions and tigers and bears. Oh my!

Back by popular demand, the queens of Sydney Drag Royalty return to strut their stuff on the marble staircase in Wild Planet.

An anatomical twist on the party favourite “pin the tail on the donkey”, experts from Queers in Science will challenge you to answer the question “What is that and where on earth does it go?”.

Presented in partnership with Pride Amplified, part of the Sydney WorldPride festival.
