Whether you're an aspiring Picasso, Gould or Kandinsky, Sami Bayly makes drawing birds fun and accessible for kids of all skill levels. Sit among real native bird specimens from the Museum’s ornithology collection as you learn to illustrate your favourite feathered friends. With one-on-one guidance from Sami, you’ll create your own beautiful watercolour artwork to take home.
For 9-16 year old workshops, a visit to The Birds of Australia: John and Elizabeth Gould exhibition will be part of the experience as inspiration, looking into the stunning 19th-century bird illustrations.

Sami Bayly is an international award-winning author and illustrator, based in Newcastle. In Sami's final year of studying a Bachelor of Natural History Illustration (Honours) at The University of Newcastle, Sami was approached by publishers and gained her first book deal. This kick-started her career in publishing and has now produced 6 books.
Loving all things weird and wonderful, Sami enjoys painting realistic flora and fauna with watercolours. Sami's favourite topics tend to be the ones most people like to avoid... such as 'ugly' animals, parasites, poo stories and more!
