Copenhagen Climate Conference

The first week of the Copenhagen Climate Conference.

This weeks Climate Conference in Copenhagen opened with a great little film followed by a leaked email which caused a bit of a distraction to the talks and then the week ended with a draft climate deal.

Can an agreement be reached? Are all countries coming to the conference demonstrating openness and transparency? Are there hidden agendas? What is a realistic outcome of this conference?

I read an interview with Yvo de Boer who is the executive secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change also known as UNFCCC saying he was hoping for four essentials for an agreement and they are:

1. How much are the industrialized countries willing to reduce their emissions of greenhouse gases?
2. How much are major developing countries such as China and India willing to do to limit the growth of their emissions?
3. How is the help needed by developing countries to engage in reducing their emissions and adapting to the impacts of climate change going to be financed?
4. How is that money going to be managed?

If these four questions could be answered then the finer details could then be outlined.

It will be interesting to watch the talks unfold throughout the next week.

My wish for Christmas is still a climate change agreement for the planet.
