Mother Tongue: Film Screening + Q&A

Join us for a free screening of the award-winning documentary, Mother Tongue, by Peruvian filmmaker and academic Dr Gabina Funegra. Mother Tongue explores the efforts to preserve Quechua- the "language of the Inca" as younger generations are drawn to the more globalised languages of Spanish and English. Traversing communities across Peru, Paris, Pennsylvania and New York, Mother Tongue tracks the fate of Quechua from survival to revival.
Following the screening, join Dr Gabina Funegra in a Q&A hosted by the University of Sydney's Chair of Spanish and Latin American Studies, Dr Fernanda Peñaloza.

The portraits in this pop-up exhibition document the rich cultural melding of Indigenous Andean traditions with Catholic influences, creating a unique celebration of life, fertility, and community.

Get your groove on as celebrated musicians Duo Jimenez team up with dance ensemble Te Amo Peru, showcasing the amazing sounds and rhythms of the Andes.
Free drop-in dance lessons for kids are running each day at 10.30am, 11.30am and 12.30pm, a perfect opportunity experience the magic and rhythms of Marinera dance.
