Karen is the DigiVol Coordinator at the Australian Museum. She is responsible for providing management of the DigiVol Lab where a team of volunteers are digitising the museum’s collections. The Australian Museum has a large number of specimens that need to be electronically documented to assist scientists and others to learn more about the earth’s biodiversity. The team of skilled volunteers digitise specimens as well as a range of archival materials, including field diaries and early museum registers.

Before joining the Australian Museum Karen has had an impressive 20-year career in the museum sector, having worked at some of the top museums in NSW, such as Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences, Art Gallery of NSW, Sydney Living Museums, and the NSW Rail Museum. Her expertise and passion across her career have been primarily in managing dynamic volunteer and visitor experience teams and programs. This is where she shines, combining her love for museums and their collections with community engagement. She has extensive experience in establishing programs from the ground up, operations management, team development, and implementing new technologies, systems and processes to enhance experiences and connect teams.

Karen approaches all her work with the believe that museums have the power to excite, educate, and enlighten. This power should be used and shared with all.
