Blood is essential to many animals, providing nutrients and transporting oxygen throughout the body. This area of the exhibition explores blood as a food source and highlights some of the features that make it valuable to the animals that feed on it.
The gallery is illuminated and features red wall panels and a polished timber floor. Suspended from the ceiling above the centre of the space are multiple oversized red blood cell models. The models are circular with a shallow central depression and hang at different heights on thin wires. Beneath them is a circular red display structure with graphic panels around its top edge. Text on this structure explains what blood is made of and why it is important to blood-feeding animals. Large wall graphics, including text panels and diagrams, are positioned around the room. A tall white panel on the left displays the heading “BLOOD” with branching vessel-like illustrations above and below the text. Dark structural columns stand between the display areas.
