His face seems to float in the upper left of the frame, surrounded by darkness. The eye, further away seems pale with an arched eyebrow. And the eye closer is almost totally obscured in shadow. We can only just see a glint and the roundness of the eye socket.
Smoke in rings and curls around the head, emerging from the darkness. Ethereal like an apparition or vision. Disembodied, floating with a gaze, wistful, considering, focused. Sharp yet dreamy.
