The original dark brown timber floor, revealed by the restoration, is pitted and polished. The perimeter of the gallery is defined by white columns – four each at the narrow ends and eight along the length with glass cases for the exhibits set back between the columns. The glass cases have black aluminium frames, the side and back walls of the case and all the plinths used in the displays are painted matt black.
There are two staircases in the gallery. One at the far end opposite the entrance, set between the two centre pillars, which has stone steps and brass handrails. The second is half way along the gallery on the right side which is a dual access, timber stairway which leads to the level 1. On the floor, between the two stair accesses is a touch screen interactive housed in a purpose made timber cabinet, designed to look like one of the Victorian display cases originally used in the gallery.
Four black ottomans are spaced out along the centre of the gallery for visitors to sit and enjoy the exhibits.
