Join us for an evening with broadcaster and author Tracey Holmes, in conversation with Australian Museum Director & CEO Kim McKay AO, to discuss her new memoir The Eye of the Dragonfly. Throughout her career, Tracey has explored sport through the lens of human stories, bringing diverse voices and perspectives to a traditionally male-dominated field. In her memoir, she explores the cultural power of sport and its meaningful community rituals and champions the lasting impact on identity and belonging that sport holds.

Tracey Holmes is one of Australia’s most recognised and rewarded journalists having spent almost four decades reporting on the world’s biggest sports stories. Her work is focused on the intersection where sport meets politics, business, culture, and news. Her weekly podcast, The Sports Ambassador, explores in detail the stories behind the headlines, it can be found on Patreon, Spotify, YouTube and across most social media platforms. The Eye of the Dragonfly, her most recent book offering a 360 degree view of the world through the prism of sport, will be published by Simon and Schuster in August. As Deputy Chair of the Oceania Australia Foundation, a Council Member of Indigenous Football Australia, a member of the IOC Press Committee, and a Mentor for the IOC Young Reporters program, Tracey is actively involved in promoting sport as a tool for social change and empowerment.
Tracey has a Master’s degree in Communications, is currently studying a
Master’s in Sports Diplomacy at the Hungary University of Sports Science and (when time permits) will finish her Master’s in Sports Law at Melbourne University.
Kim McKay AO

Kim McKay is Director and CEO of the Australian Museum and is responsible for the strategic direction and management of the nation's first museum, including a collection of over 22 million natural science specimens and cultural objects. Kim was appointed the Director’s role in 2014 (the first woman in the AM’s 190+ year history) and has since initiated a broad transformation program, including overseeing Project Discover, the AM’s $57.5m award-winning renovation of public spaces.
Prior to the AM, Kim worked in the USA in senior roles for Discovery Channel and National Geographic, co-founded the Clean Up Australia and Clean Up the World campaigns and co-authored five True Green books. She was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Science from the University of Wollongong in recognition of her contribution to science, including her work on environmental and conservation issues, and an Honorary Doctorate of Science from the University of Technology Sydney for her achievements in the community, non-profit, cultural, environmental, communications and business sectors. Kim was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in 2008 for distinguished service to the environment and the community.
