'Life Coming Back to Moon Lake', that’s the lake near Wilcannia, Lake Woytchugga, and the white fella call it Woytchugga. I call it ‘moon lake’ or Bychutka and Bychutka means the moon.
So, that print I think it was done in about 2010 and I think it was that big drought we had that La Niña, it's just breaking and water was going in and that’s when I carved that print and you see the Darling Lillies in it. That’s an onion that’ll lay under the ground about this far and it lays dormant, but soon as water hit it, it comes up and so it was flooding and was making onions grow too, so that’s why I put that there.
And I called it 'Life Coming Back to Moon Lake’, and then in it you’ll see catfish and swans and all that because that’s one of the places that’s a good wetland we got out of town at Wilcannia and when I was a kid, why I put the swans in it. We used to go there and catch and get the swan eggs and that and the duck eggs, so that's why I put that there like that yeah.
Courtney Marsh: What do swan eggs taste like?
Uncle Badger Bates: Sort of something like the tame duck eggs, nice and rich. Yeah they're good.
